“An illustration should not repeat what the writer said, but creatively supplement his words and prolong the effect of the text. The first conclusion is irresistible from this: the illustration is inseparable from the text, which should be fully known to the artist and commented upon by the artist in accordance with the author's intentions (...) the illustration should be inspired by the author's word. The engraving follows the text and cannot dominate or take an independent place in the book, subject only to the rigors of its own art." , wrote K. Głombiowski in the work "A book in the process of social communication".
