"Landscape is a theme taken up by artists from different periods of the history of art. Although initially it served only as a background, as the art and artists' independence developed, it became an independent, very important motif which gave an excuse for serious artistic expression. Sometimes, a painting with the landscape became the beginning of a new trend, such as Impressionism. In the 19th and 20th centuries, artists created landscape-themed works so often that one can think that at present it is difficult to find an original, innovative approach to landscape in art”. Such an assessment was the starting point for the announcement of the competition devoted to the contemporary execution of the landscape theme. The originator of the competition is prof. Krystyna Szwajkowska, its main organiser – the Częstochowa District of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, and its first edition took place in 2013. The aim of the competition is to show the state-of-the-art world artistic attitudes towards this seemingly traditional theme, and to confront them in various artistic disciplines. The exhibition consists of works selected by the Jury in a multi-stage qualification.
