On 3 December 2016 in Warsaw, the results of the competition for Grand Prix of the Franciszka Eibisch Foundation were announced. It is one of the most significant painting competitions in Poland. Every year, several hundred young artists from art schools all over Poland take part in it. The competition exhibition was prepared in the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery. This year, Grand Prix was awarded ex aequo to Lena Achtelik (Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice) and Magdalena Dreścik (Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw). Eight honorary distinctions were also awarded to the following artists: Emilia Dragosz (Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków), Marta Duda (Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk), Iwona Gabryś (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Faculty of Arts), Katarzyna Karpowicz (Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków), Marcin Krawczyk (University of the Arts in Poznań), Joanna Nowińska (Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław), Maria Szachnowska (Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk), Małgorzata Wojciechowska- Stępień (Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź). The Foundation was established by the will of professor Eugeniusz Eibisch (1896-1987), an outstanding painter and colourist, a long-time professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and in Warsaw, winner of the Guggenheim Prize. The Foundation, acting pro bono, organises an annual competition for young painters. The competition is open to graduates up to ten years after the Master's degree and students of the last year of Polish art schools with higher education accreditation (the first and second year of graduate studies). Candidates are submitted by the Academies of Fine Arts and other universities which educate in the field of painting, as well as by Associations and Unions of Creators. Individual applications are also accepted.
In the competition, Grand Prix together with a cash prize is awarded as well as Honorary Distinctions. The ceremonial announcement of results takes place each year on 3 December (the name day of Franciszka, to honour the wife of professor Eugeniusz Eibisch). The competition exhibition takes place in the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery at Świętokrzyska 32 in Warsaw. It is open until 15 December this year. Selected works are also presented in the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in Brussels.
