On 22 June 2015, there was a jury meeting of the competition board of the 1st International Kashubian Visual Art Competition ”Cassubia Visuales” for a poster with a transformed Kashubian pattern. The idea of the competition was to transform the traditional Kashubian pattern into a modernised visual form, to inspire to search for and discover Kashubian motifs, and among other things to obtain graphic works of a high artistic level. The competition was entered into by 44 persons who submitted 92 works, including 89 from Poland (Rypin, Wejherowo, Warsaw, Reda, Inowrocław, Stoszewice, Kielce, Poznań, Łódź, Bobrowniki, Bytów, Gdynia, Częstochowa, Gdańsk, Poczesna, Koniecpol, Busko-Zdrój, Śliwice, Tychy, Tarnowiec) and 3 from abroad (Algund in Italy and London in Great Britain). The artistic level of the works and the understanding of the theme were very diverse. The boards debated for over an hour about the selection of works, taking into consideration all possible aspects of the assessment – below you can find the justification for the selection of the awarded works. The jury composed of: chairwoman – Marta Flisykowska, Ph.D. (Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk), Benita Grzenkowicz-Ropela, MA (Museum of Kashubian and Pomeranian Writing and Music in Wejherowo), Paulina Piotrowska, MA (Municipal Cultural Centre in Reda) awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize and three distinctions (...).

Distinction – Iwona Gabryś –  “The work in the convention of a poster with a playful meaning, full of positive energy, which is a simple, clear message to the wider audience – “Kashubia is OK”. An interesting example of the transposition of traditional ornamentation for the needs of mass, popular culture. The traditional motif of embroidery has become a symbol, a mark, a logotype of the region. An excellent example of a poster promoting the region – a pared-down, minimalist form that carries the ambiguity of associations and meanings”(...).
